I’ve had these Corsa N.EXT 32mm (tube version) on the bike for only a few months - a couple of thousand kilometres at most - and there’s big chunks missing already - even on the side wall of the front tyre!
How can this happen? I’ve used this model before and they lasted a lot longer.
I had the same experience with this tire. Bought it for an Ultra distance event (2200km, 30k vertical), also the 32mm version. I hoped this would be a good trade off between rolling resistance and durability. Despite mainly tarmac surface (only one gravel section up Col de la Finestre), the tire started disintegrating in the end. Compared to your example mainly in the tread and smaller sections of missing rubber, but I barely managed to finish (with two tubes inside, started tubeless). I will not buy this tire again.
I am interested to hear if get a response from Vittoria. I have had a similar experience with a rear tyre that had chunks peel off after about 6 months of riding. The front tyre that was installed at the same time is still going well 18 months later. All riding done on good roads.
I’m riding on decent roads, 70 PSI, only cleaning is occasional wash with plain liquid soap. I think my first pair of these tyres also went this way, but they lasted longer and only the rear showed chunks missing.
It’s the off-centre damage on the front that has me most flummoxed.
This happened to a non-tubeless version after less than a 1000km of use. I was in Italy at the time but fortunately had a spare tyre with me in my kit. I like the ride feel and grip of Vittoria tyres but I find them too fragile. Now running Schwalbe Ones.
That’s weird. I have never had that happen to the various Vittoria tires I have run (various versions of Corsa (Pro) Controls, Terrenos). One time I had to replace my tires, because the rubber had dried out and I didn’t want to run tires with a less grippy compound.
I haven’t used Corsa NEXT but I had used Corsa Control. I found the are fast, grippy, and comfy but not very durable (although not nearly as bad as yours!)
I wrench at a shop that does lots and lots of these tires and I’ve seen a pattern of this with the current generation of Corsa N.Ext tube type or tubeless.
We’ve had some success getting warranty replacements for customers through Vittoria.
We haven’t figured out a cause. It’s definitely not all, but there’s a pattern of some.
I’ve had this sort of experience with Vittoria for decades. As others have said, they’ve always been the (often) fastest and best feeling tyres on the market but they’re seemingly made of paper. Save em for winning races/TTs!
I used to run their tubs on the TT bike and they’re so fast. But they’d last only a few rides before this exact sort failure or from one time the valve stem detaching from the tube and casing. Luckily no crashes or injuries!
Wow. That looks strange. We are running 30mm NEXT tyres on our fleet of bikes and not seen this before. We are not using them in bad weather though and they are meticulously maintained.
I know a few people who’ve experienced this and they were told by a bike shop that Vittoria had moved some production to a new factory and hadn’t factored in the humidity. This resulted in premature delamination. Of course I don’t know if that’s true, but I know of three people who’ve experienced this with these tyres.
