Sorry, but episode 6 missed the mark. I wasn’t entertained by the banter. Caley notes that the audience is 50/50 for and against the relaxed vibes, I’m putting it up here for a vote. I’m against.
I agree. I don’t mind a bit of banter but a couple of the episodes seemed to have so much laughter that no information or analysis of the stage got through. I find the constant interrupting of the person speaking quite disruptive and I just mentally switch off.
A shift in tone for sure. Not my fave. I think Iain comes back today. Looking forward to that.
I was cracking up the whole time, I loved it. I fully enjoyed the vibe of friends hanging out.
Do I want this style every episode? No. But every 5 to 10 stages it’s fine with me.
What I hate are the stingers in after dark, they’re too much like bad morning radio/shock jock effects.
Too add, yesterdays stage didn’t have too much to analyse I think. Healy nailed the tactics, visma made it hard at the end.
If I want a more in depth view on the stages I just listen to LRCP. I listen to SC for the background info and “feel” of the circus that is the tour.
Oh man, I cringe when I hear the fart noise for the smell of the day segment… too juvenile for a middle aged dad like me.
I really enjoyed it. There’s a dozen race recap podcasts out there.
The reason I love the EC is because they aren’t beholden on the sport and can call out a dull tour/race when it happens. At this point it just gets tiresome to hear podcasts drone on about how amazing tadje is and try to manifest some tension in a tour that has little to none.
I’d take honest banter over fake hype every day of the week.
Agreed that it missed the mark…I enjoy the banter and relaxed approach, but it was a bit too much for this episode. Everyone was talking over each other and it made the whole thing hard to follow.
A middle-aged dad who doesn’t enjoy a good fart joke/noise? This does not compute for me, a fellow middle-aged dad. I fully enjoyed the banter and the pod in total.
I liked it. Too many like this would grate, but it’s good to have a podcast that doesn’t take the race too seriously.
My favourite ones come towards the end of the tour when everyone’s minds are unraveling.
So far 4 in favor and 4 at least muted reaction…I guess Caley knows his audience!
I really love the balance of irreverence/serious bike talk that the pod hits. Any given day can be a bit different (like the stages), but overall it’s a tone I love. I may be slightly biased as I was on the Friday pod.
There are plenty of other analysis shows out there. I’m frankly surprised EC doesn’t do daily HTRWW podcasts in addition to Spin Cycle. I, for one, would welcome it. Caley was clear from the start of the pod that the addition of CMB and Zac Williams would inevitably lead to chaos, and of course it did. I always appreciate the balance of voices on Spin Cycle—if you’re looking for forced unauthentic content, go listen to Spencer Martin choke his way through 17 ad-reads.
I personally enjoyed last nights pod, I think they are are a more chilled recap, just like the weekly pod. Not sure if they they will have a how the race was won pod for the tour for the more in-depth analysis
I liked the episode.
I especially liked the Caley/Jonny/Iain episodes last year though and those often go off the rails if you’re looking for analysis. I enjoy reading race analysis more then hearing it and my tech tolerance is only able to handle about the 5 or 6 days that Ronan was there even though I like Ronan a lot.
100%…about the only thing in life that is guaranteed to make me laugh as a middle-aged+ dad is a good fart joke or fart noise.
I may be in my high-50’s physically, but mentally I am still a teenager.
Yeah I liked it, there’s enough other serious race analysis podcasts/videos out there. The stories behind the racing about the personalities are just as interesting for me.
I agree, I stopped listening in After Dark, just got too silly. I really didn’t like the putting down of Mark Soler, calling him dumb once felt a bit off but I think they did it 3 times.
I think CMB said that they had done 20min of race analysis so that was enough, episode was nearly an hour long, for a so called journalist with a capital J, it felt more Daily Mail then WSJ.
Fair. I didn’t love the Mark Soler–bashing either, and frankly Caley and Johnny didn’t seem very comfortable in that moment either. Also, can we please pour one out for poor Johnny, who took so much heat for driving the speed limit. LOL
I liked the pod, but also might have helped that I watched it in video form.
