SRAM XPLR Chainring Replacement

I am planning on swapping the front chainring on my 1x13 XPLR Crux from the stock 40T to a 38T.
I have confirmed that this means I have to remove a pair of links from the chain, which is annoying, since I might want to swap back after trying the 38T.

  • Should I do anything with the spindle preload adjuster on the left side if I’m simply removing the drive side crank to swap chainrings and then reinstalling it? Surely the preload will still be appropriate if I’m re-installing the same crank?
  • Do I need to re-adjust the rear derailleur when I shorten the chain?
    Thanks.

You are supposed to set the derailleur again to accomodate the change in chain length and chainring size.

It’s definitely good idea to reset the preload when reinstalling cranks.
