Indoor Training and Racing (quick introductions)

Hi all, I’m Adam and I have absolutely no formal credentials, but I do have an unlimited appetite for cycling performance content and a niche expertise in the various virtual training and racing platforms. I coach cyclists looking to get better enjoyment and results out of racing on Zwift, MyWhoosh etc. and especially enjoy the challenges and joys of stage racing.

Once upon a time I was an IRL racer and segment chaser, but do 99% of my riding indoors these days for family, availability, and safety reasons.

I enjoy general discussions around physiology, training, psychology, and racing, and am happy to answer any questions about indoor riding as a standalone discipline or a complement to other goals.

Hello Adam!

I have been zwifting for a while now, and really got back into it this winter. While I was going to plan my intervals on the platform, I ended up having a lot of fun just doing 1-2 of the 30-90 minute races per week. It may not be ideal training but it kept me engaged.
Any recommendations for a good league/series that caters to non-elites? I was on my way up in Zwiftpower but I’m still a solid C (368)

I have spent years now using racing as my primary ‘training’! I’ll occasionally put in some structure, but I have always been vastly more motivated by outcomes vs process.

The monthly zRacing series has definitely soaked up a lot of the riders these days, but that’s always an option for a quick race and you can push for a good monthly GC result for added motivation.

I race a series called the ECRO World Tour that shadows the (men’s) World Tour. We’re in the midst of 21 races in 23 days, just like the TDF, but early in the year it’s a good one for training/racing because it follows the Classics and is 1-2 hard races per week. They have some big one day races left (San Sebastian, world champs, Lombardia), and for the Vuelta they’re doing a modified schedule with three weeks of riding stages on Fri/Sat/Sun rather than following the whole grand tour. They have riders all the way down to E Cat and 4 well-attended time slots.

For a challenge, the Japanese-organised races like ZEAL and EMU are on every week and are almost always spicy!
