Clik valve system conversion

Ah damn, I have that pump and I just put in an order in with Clik Valve last week.

I was mistaken. The Clik adapter goes between the CycPlus disc and the Shrader-to-Clik adapter. Still pretty compact overall, though.

I returned that one as the frequency of the noise was too jarring compared to others. The pump itself was great. I use the Fumpa ones though and the Cycplus for on the bike. The silca one too I had a great experience with.

Anybody have suggestions for small “frame” pumps like the Silca Tattico?

I use the Tattico and Gravelo pumps (non-digital version) and I find they work fine with no adapter. Presta grips and locks onto the Clik valve.

Possibly! There’s a lot of heat and vibration going through that part. Maybe there’s a filament that holds up.

It’s my first portable inflator so I have nothing to compare it to, but yes the noise is spectacular. I started taking my bikes outside the garage to top up because the reverberation inside hits a pitch that feels like it’s a danger to my hearing.

FYI, Silca has said that you will need to add 6-7 PSI. that is, the pump gauge, if you have one, will read 6-7 PSI lower than the actual pressure.

Hast anyone else experienced a broken valve? I was quite content with click valve but now I have to reconsider

I have not but Path Less Pedaled did. The outcome looked exactly like yours.

I’ve had a few tpu tubes where for whatever reason the clik valve doesn’t seal against the valve stem regardless of how tight it’s screwed in

Beyond that would recommend the change to everyone.

If those valve stems of yours are anything like these, it’s probably because the threaded portion is of a plastic material that loses shape over time, for a varying reasons. The silver section surrounds the black plastic threaded portion, presumably to help provide reinforcement and prevent the plastic material from becoming overly misshapen. If you’re anything but gentle, when inserting the Clik valve into the stem, it will very quickly get misaligned, resulting in accelerated air leakage.

I screwed the blue Clik adapter into a nine-month-old Silca Elettrico Ultimate inflator, and almost immediately the device started “sticking” at 4 PSI at atmosphere. That figure jumped around wildly with repeated uses, and the inflator soon bricked with a permanent EE8 (Pressure Sensor Failure) error.

Silca was great with a warranty replacement.

I started the new unit with Clik only, including screwing in the adapter very lightly (perhaps that had been the problem). After a week or so I abandoned the Clik system entirely because I wasn’t confident about the pressure readings – I’d swap back and forth with my Park shop pump and the readings just weren’t consistent. I also didn’t appreciate the Clik system when I was out and about and wanted to check pressures or top up with pumps that didn’t have an adapter.

However, the replacement inflator started failing almost exactly like the original. First, it would stick between 3 and 18 PSI at atmosphere, then it would resolve after a day and multiple power cycles. I was left stranded on a ride with a puncture when the device kept rocketing between 156 PSI and ~40 PSI at atmosphere, finally settling in the 150’s, and therefore unusable. The dreaded EE8 error appeared exactly like the original pump: Directly after draining much of the battery then fully charging overnight. After a few days, this unit pulled out of it, but is currently stuck on 7 PSI at atmosphere (an improvement following two days at 8 PSI).

In this video the pump (no Clik adapter) was showing 4 PSI pushing nothing but air, then the sensor jumped all over the place after stopping the pump

I made the leap because Clik had a 16-core kit on sale for $48, and I bought a couple extra adapters. I’m sold for sure and have had no problem with the adapters on Silca floor pumps. I have a Cyclus Ultra and replaced the adapter with the Silca red ring from the Eletretto, it’s working fine (Although I haven’t really checked the accuracy). The Tattico pump in Presta mode works fine when the Cyclus battery fails. In my estimation, this system is a very good upgrade and worth the small cost, especially if they keep the sale on cores going.

One thing I’ve noticed is that plastic core ‘wrenches’ don’t really work, and the Park core remover doesn’t work. The core tool in Wolf Tooth 8-bit pliers is fine though. The 16-core kit comes with 2 aluminum core wrenches and they are of course just fine.. I greases the cores before putting them in and have not yet had an issue with any sealant gluing them into the stem.

I recommend getting the metal core tools. I find the aluminum valve caps will strip out if you try to use them as core tools.

Turn the Park Tool remover sideways and use the notch that’s built into it. The downside is with the extra leverage, you can really over torque it.

For those that have eased their way in to using Clik, how did you get from “just trying it” to “convert all the bikes”? (or did you?)

Installed the Lezyne tubeless valves w/ Clik pre-installed on my MTB over the weekend, actually used 'em yesterday, and they seem great so far. The breakage that PLP and others have had is definitely a bit concerning, but hopefully the material change that they’ve allegedly made helps there.

My biggest concern is with dealing with swapping pump heads/adapters back and forth (and not losing the adapters!) - I feel like I don’t need much more positive feedback to convert all my bikes, but nervous about converting my high school racer’s bike - we’ve only had one pre-race incident where they had to borrow somebody else’s pump last minute, but that’s enough to worry about the permutations of ‘does it have a presta head that will work?’ 'what about faffing around with an adapter (hopefully they haven’t lost it)?" etc.

I belong to the self-sufficiency camp, so I’ve got all the bikes I ride regularly swapped over to Clik, so I never get caught out with having to swap between Prestas and Cliks. I’ve also got spare TPUs ready with Cliks in the saddle pouch for when a puncture happens. The TPUs also get re-used with patches, and the Cliks stay on them, so it’s all been good. The pump is a Cycplus AS2 Ultra with the hose fitted with a Clik head.

I’m also quite the nosey lad, and will mostly stop for other riders stranded by the road with a puncture. In those cases, I’d just get the Cycplus (minus the hose) on their tube and they’ll be ready to go in a few seconds.
