Any substance to this?

So this just got shared in a cycling thread on a soccer forum. Anybody knows if this real or fake news?

Edit: Apparently it is a document from the US Patent Office, but the subject it was tested on should be Pogacar…

Meh. Testing on only one subject won’t provide statistically significant results, but that’s not surprising for patent applications. I think it’s a nothing burger without more studies and more information.

Where was this shared? It would be interesting to read the whole paper/patent (if it actually exists)

I’d take this specific claim with a grain of salt, but overall, the increased carb intake has led to much better performance — for (essentially) everyone.

It’s a bit hard to tell from that snippet exactly what is in the drink that is purported to have an effect. It does mention glycerol - I have heard of glycerol supplementation to improve hydration before, so it might be a variation on that theme.

I would agree that the test results are nowhere near conclusive (one test of one subject).
