Aesthetic cycling rules

Agree. They can have any gearing they want as long as they stand and make good pain faces.

Ban tan sidewall tires. All tire sidewalls must be black.
The rest of the comments here about the intersection of aesthetics and marginal gains tech makes me think:

This is blasphemy.

Agree that skinsuits look way better than two piece shirts and bibs. I also think aero socks look better than traditional socks, but assuming they’re cut within UCI regs and hence stop at the beginning of the calf muscle; however I’m willing to stop short of making this a rule.

Also agree than tan sidewalls are an abomination. Retro hipster to the extreme.

My contribution to the rules is that black shoes are an abomination. White or other, preferably light, colors only.

All sponsor logos on national champ jerseys will be banned when I’m UCI president

1 : no shaving during the race. - You can start freshly shaven and with a neat haircut at the start of the race, but no shaving, cutting or trimming during the race. I should be able to look at your face and see if it’s week 1, week 2 or week 3.

2 : tan wall tires on round tube frames only.

All seat tubes must be straight lines. None of this Colnago Y1RS nonsense.
And 100% agree that shorts should be dark (not necessarily black).
No watches that cost more than the bike.

Why does it feel like I’m attacking Tadej?

team helmets should be mandated to have distinctive patterns and colours.

it’s just too difficult to pick out different teams in the peloton or in sprint finishes sometimes.

Does this also apply to legs?

Re: tan walls, I think there are bike where they work, and bike where they don’t. The rule should be, you have to submit your paint design and then it’s decided whether you run tan walls or black.

Alternatively, bring back colored sidewalls. You have to match bar tape, saddle color, and sidewalls. And maybe shoes.

Computer mount shall be level with ground or pointing downward but no more than 17,37 degrees. No erected computers allowed.

Restrict headtube junction “length” - the highlighted part just looks silly

All national champions must get custom painted bikes to match during competition.

Every rider should get an assigned number for the entire season (could be career), and that number should be prominently printed on the back of their team jersey like in other professional sports. Let’s make it easy to identify riders in the pack / break-away, especially helicopter shots. Plus teams should have to settle on a “brand” image covering the colors they will use in their jerseys, and they need to keep this for 3 - 5 years. And while I hate having the UCI do much, the UCI (or another organization) needs to “police” this so that team jerseys are distinct.

I don’t care that much about the kits being consistent but i’m all in on career numbers in the way it’s implemented in mountainbiking

This is exactly right. Stop with the silly pins. All teams have clearly distinguishable jerseys and each rider has one specific number.

It makes no sense to me that professional athletes are still pinning numbers on before every race. I’m sure the superstars have swanis doing it for them, but the fact that we still see pictures/videos of riders doing this on socials is so sad. At amateur level, fine, but feel like conti and above should have permanent numbers, each team can have numbers 00-30 or something like that.
