World Road Champs 2025 - Lorne

Anyone else racing the World Champs (Gran Fondo) in Lorne, Australia this year? aka Amys Gran Fondo

I’ll be there in the 50+ division.

It is the world champs and you won’t change my mind.

I won’t be there, but if it is anything like the Tour de Brisbane qualifying race, then you are guaranteed to win a sheep station.

Best of luck!

will be riding the recreational event - missed the World’s qualifying cut in the 60- 65 group be < 1 minute in Brisbane - bummed!

I rode ToB this year too. Utter carnage. I never saw the leaders as by the time we cleared the CBD clutter, they were long gone from my sight. I almost crashed into about 50 different riders wobbling all over the road as I pursued them at double the speed of sight seers doing 20 km/h and swerving across a 5 lane highway to enjoy a view to one side. Hopefully Amys is better!

That is rough.. Will be a great ride anyway.

ToB was a mess, never seen so many people crashing all day and having the recreational riders on course at the same time, again proved to be a disaster. I was all set for Lorne but can no longer go … very sad to be missing our home race  All in for SeVeN Gravel Worlds next year :crossed_fingers:

I will be racing in the 55-60 category. I qualified at ToB as well and there were some sketchy moments. The highlight had to be entering an unlit tunnel wearing sunglasses with a 90 degree bend less than 1km from the finish while trying to sprint on cramping legs. Looking forward to Lorne, it should be good.

I’m raci.. sorry riding Bowral on the same weekend. Didn’t do any qualifying events, though would have been nice. Realistically, my fitness isn’t there right now.

A friend has done a few of the Gran Fondo world champs in Europe - Italy, Poland I think. He said it was carnage there, too, and terrible roads. Just very difficult with the numbers.

Good luck and safe riding! :crossed_fingers::folded_hands:
