Wolf Tooth ALT or CTRL pedals - Help me decide!

Hey fellow Escapees! I am looking to purchase either the new Wolf tooth ALT or CTRL pedals for my gravel bike. I have a Lauf Siegla and ride often Cat 3 or 4 gravel where I am trying to avoid rocks, holes while still maintaining some speed. I can’t decide between the ALT or the CTRL pedals with a bigger platform size. Obviously there is a weight penalty with the CTRL pedals. Anyone with experience on both versions?

Would you benefit from the adjustable Q factor of the wolf tooth pedals? If not, what do you find appealing about them vs shimano xt or xtr pedals?

I definitely want to experiment with the different widths. I hope I get a more stable, larger platform with the Wolf Tooth pedals. I like the feel of Shimano SPD-SL pedals and want to get closer to that with MTB/gravel pedals

I recently switched from Shimano XT pedals to the Wolf Tooth Del pedals on my Seigla and so far so good. Overall they feel like they provider a bit more of a strong platform for power transfer and I haven’t had any issues. I have not ridden them on any gnarly gravel yet, but since I didn’t have any issues with my XT pedals I imagine these will be just as good, if not better. Not exactly the pedals you are looking at, but since the DEL pedals are just single sides ALT pedals it should be semi relevant.

For me, the extra stability of the foot-pedal interface on the Wolftooths over XTs or XTRs makes the choice easy. The adjustable stance is very useful too (I now have the clearance I need to prevent my winter boots rubbing on my cranks and chainstays) and, while I hope to not need it in the near future, the rebuildability of the Wolftooths is reassuring (I have many pairs of SPDs that I have worn grooves in, resulting in a very sloppy, wobbly fit on the pedal).

Thanks. I’ll probably go for the alt pedals

What made you picked DEL over ALT? The larger platform? I am deciding between the larger platform DEL versus the double-sided ALT.

Mostly just the weight difference to be honest. Most of my gravel riding isn’t in the mud where a double side interface would be hugely beneficial. I will be taking my SPD pedals with me to Unbound this year though just in case it’s a mud year.
