Hi Stuart, I don’t have the answer on your maybe-Italian BB, even though my wife and I met at one of the Eroica vintage rides (pre-1985 bikes) generally.
I’m just writing to say that while in grad school at UNC, I biked from Chapel Hill to Greenville in a day and was pretty pleased with myself at the time. Only central-eastern NC, though.

Ahoy, Dr Tall Rider! I am in Edenton and manage Byrum Hardware in my hometown. We ride with a group mostly comprised of Chowan, Perquimans, Pasquotank, Camden, and Bertie counties, with Edenton, Winfall, Hertford, and Elizabeth City being the ride locations for the crew. Edenton is my hometown and we have a small yet quality cycling group. Thank you for your suggestion, btw.
I have tried following the thread pitch with a pick numerous times but I will need to thoroughly clean the bike before getting a good answer. As it is a customer’s bike and I am trying to do the job good and cheap, I am doing my best to work with efficiency… running a hardware store is a higher priority than cleaning a customer’s bike
