I subscribed to Staylive last year and, although the race coverage was pretty patchy (partly due to the remarkable number of races shown free-to-air here in Australia by SBS), it was well worth the modest monthly charge. However, while they continue to levy that charge, no new CX events have appeared in the last month … while none of the early-season road races (several of which were shown last year) have been offered, plus there’s no list of upcoming content available.
Anyone know what’s happening with them? Are we headed for another GCN+ type heartbreak?
I opened a support ticket with Staylive last week, asking for the link to their 2026 road racing calendar. Their response is pasted below. Their response creates more questions than it answers, and it is not encouraging, IMO.
Hello,
So sorry for not being able to communicate what will be published and not in the calendar for upcoming races.
We are in contact with the owners of the platform which are still negotiating the viewing-rights, which is the reason for this lack of information.
Whenever this is finalised, it will be published on the website and if changed from previous year also communicated via email separately.
Grateful for that, Cee_Bee … and a little embarrassed that I didn’t think to contact Support myself, though I do generally assume that such messages won’t be answered! I don’t see any alternative to cancelling the subscription, and keep a hopeful eye on developments.
Well, I don’t know - the FloBikes streaming option they’re linking to at AU$12.50 per month (annual subscription, and supposedly a 66% discount) is still twice the price of Staylive, but seems to offer more racing. My chief fear is that it’s a one-off, and will revert to full price at the first renewal.
Yeah it’s a bit weird but I just signed up to Flo bikes. Much more content than staylive so that’s a win. Much more expensive. The site didn’t specify which currency so all prices in US$. With the 12 months for the price of 4 it was still $250AUD. I think that’s a reasonable amount. GCN was too cheap, staylive was cheap but also very basic. The only drawback with FLO is the apparent lack of women’s races being broadcast. I hope this changes.
That’s great feedback, thanks Cam. I was giving it serious thought when it appeared to be AU$150, but AU$250 is a bit rich for me … especially given how much coverage we’re already getting for free on SBS. And, as you say, the lack of women’s races is really disappointing (Staylive was the same).
