Vittoria sealant - better choices for road?

We have been using vittoria sealant for our road tubeless setups (primarily commuting and roller rides) and the sealant seems to generate these hunks of latex way more than we get on off-road setups. The gem pictured below was found by wife in her rear tire which is a 28c tire! I think this sealant was only 7 or so months old. Is there a difference in sealant choice for road vs gravel/CX? Should we just use Orange seal for all the bikes? Thanks!

That looks unpleasant! I’ve been running old fashioned Stans since the beginning of my tubeless experiment. Works well here in Adelaide on road and gravel at pressures up to 65 psi. I haven’t had it balling up but it does separate over time. I check it at each solstice and equinox and top up or replace where relevant.

My 4+ year experience with sealant is that they all do generally start to solidify withing 6-12 months, affected more by how frequently I ride than the brand or age of the sealant. Seems obvious, but if the wheel gets a good 10 minutes of spin every week ore two, the sealant tends not to solidify nearly as quickly.

I do currently have the newest version of Silca in my tubes, coming up on 6 months, so can’t confirm whether or not their claim of greatest longevity is true, but I’d certainly recommend that over your Vittoria goo.

I’ve been using Muc-Off the past 2+ years in road/gravel/MTB. It stays homogeneous until it dries out.
