Last week Trek released a new ebike, the Charter +, that consolidates attributes of the Allant and Verve into one model. It looks pretty interesting as a replacement to my Benno eScout as it is very similar but comes with the current Bosch Smart System electric components and increased range from the battery. The top tier version also includes a belt drive and Shimano Nexus 5 Di2 internal gear hub.
In the current world of electric bicycles, though, this seems like a bit of a tough sell. It seems like a lot of people would opt for a cheaper consumer-direct bike like an Aventon or an Amazon-special with a throttle. So, what would you be looking for in an everyday Class-3 ebike and what would make you choose one model over another? Aside from the bike itself does service and a warranty factor in? Drive unit? etc.
