Turn off 12s Di2?

Hi

Have a 12s ultegra Di2 r8150 on a bike about to hibernate for the winter. I do cover the brake levers but the shed is a tight fit and I’d like to avoid accidentally shifting. I’d like to disable the di2. Can I do that? Maybe disconnect the wires into the shifters (like when I check firmware and connect to the front mech battery wire)? I’d rather not mess with the seat post.

Thoughts?

Thank you

Simon

As far as I know, Di2 components are all wired in series, so if you break the circuit anywhere, nothing will work. A quick test would be to just unplug your rear derailleur and see if it shifts. Mine doesn’t, but it’s not the latest 12 speed system. The rear derailleur is more accessible to unplug and plug back in than the shifters.

Well that would be brilliant. Thanks for your help I will try just unplugging the rear mech.

Di2 uses a canbus like technology so it doesn’t matter what’s plugged in to what, it will still work. Unplugging the RD will obviously stop the RD from shifting but isn’t really disabling the system. Also bear in mind your 12s has wireless shifters to they are going to be transmitting regardless if the lever is pressed. Popping the batteries out of the shifters would be the most complete way oif ensuring they aren’t accidentally drained

The wireless transmission is sent from the rear derailleur. Unplugging that (and installing a dummy plug to keep the port clean) is the best way to keep it from draining.

It’s also a good idea to simply charge the battery every couple months.

Wireless Di2 does not turn until the shifting paddles have been pressed. Unlike Sram, which wakes up with movement. So you should be okay to leave everything plugged in as is. If you’re worried, I would remove seat post and battery.

Thanks all. I don’t want to mess with the seat post so covering the levers and unplugging both mechs should be fine. I normally charge it before hibernation and when it comes out 4 ish months later.
