Travel logistics

Ask questions, get answers on everything travel related.

Cautionary note for those travelling to GBurn internationally - we were notified last week that Airlink had rejected our bike bags from our J’burg to George flight despite having initially accepted them. Thankfully our travel agent picked this up and we’ve found a solution. Would have been a nasty surprise at checkin otherwise.

They have limited capacity for bike bags and you have to have it pre approved as the planes can be quite small. Glad you came right though. Good luck and safe travels.

Okay I have some questions…

I’m going to travel extensively through Asia mainly and a bit of Europe for the next 6-12 months. I’m taking one of my road bikes which are all rim braked.

Having never ridden in KL, Thailand, Japan etc will I be fine using my rim braked bike (alloy or carbon rims) with the weather and climate and lots of climbing/descents? Do I avoid bringing carbon rimmed wheels and stick to aluminium or look at a new bike (disc brakes) which I was considering at some stage?

I’m expecting hot, humid weather with showers at times. Most of my riding will be in the early morning’s with the hotter weather, as it moves to the middle of the year.

Any advice is welcome….thanks.
