I’m trying to service my Roval rear hub (Terra CLX EVO wheel set), with DT Swiss EXP internals. I’m on step 2.5 in the DT Swiss manual, “Hit it with a hammer” - specifically tapping on the drive side end of the axle to push out the non-drive side bearing cartridge. It’s not budging. I tried hitting it harder, and also cleaned what I can access. I don’t see obvious damage that would be holding the bearing in. Does anyone know if this step is different for Roval hubs than plain DT Swiss hubs (I’ve had trouble finding manuals for this hub specifically)?
hard to describe how hard you have to hit, but way harder than you think it you should. The real key is bracing the hub shell. In the pic, they are using their hand, but in some cases I have to use a vise with plastic jaw protectors. Hub is placed with axle pointing down into vise, hub shell supported on plastic jaws, then hammering down on drive-side axle. I also use a shockless hammer (plastic hammer full of bb’s).
I hate the hammer thing. Try a press.
I had this issue too, it did not work with the hammer but it did work with a bearing press if I recall correctly
Thanks everyone. I don’t have a press that fits through a 12mm axle, so tried hitting it harder while bracing it against something more solid than my hand. Unfortunately I didn’t do a good job of protecting the rotor mount from damage…so anyway I no longer need to get those particular bearings out.
But I recommend anyone else who finds this thread to go with the press suggestion.
