I normally use my 1Up rack for my bike, with a second bike in the truck bed on the rare occasions that I need to transport 2 bikes. For an upcoming ride I need to transport 3 bikes. Found a couple of good deals on new Yakima Gatekeeper pad at REI and on FB. This would be for a 35 mile each way, mostly on interstate. Any concerns about 3 road bikes on one (1 steel, 1 aluminum, 1 carbon)? Thanks. There seem to be mixed opinions.
Some RockyMounts in the truck bed should take care of a road few bikes.
I am not a fan of tailgate pads, but that just like my opinon, man.
add ons for the 1 up? I put road bikes on mine all the time.
Yes, I would prefer to go with the 1up add-on. But that’s gonna cost me over 300 bucks. I don’t know how often I’ll use it. I’ve looked into the Rocky mounts, and that could work, but I’d still probably be out a couple hundred bucks once I got a rail and three mounts. I can get a Yakima gatekeeper for hundred bucks on Facebook marketplace. So tell me what I am risking by using that once or twice a year or so.
I used a Yakima Beddy Jo for a while in the back of a pickup w/ a open bed and one with a camper shell. Also used it in the back of my Mini van for years. If you can find one it should be cheap and very secure. You may need a “fork up” thru axle adapter, but it is a solid solution for two bikes.
I’ve got a permanent scratch on a bike from 1 use on a marketplace tailgate pad.
Granted, its a MTB and there was mud involved.
