Has anyone tried this helmet or any helmet from Sweet Protection? I’m curious about how they fit, especially when compared to Giro. Right now I’m using a Giro Eclipse Spherical that’s über comfortable but that is also approaching the end of its service life.
I’ve had one for 2y and love it. It’s the most comfy helmet I ever had, it looks good on my head (no mushroom look) and ventilation is great (not the aero version)
Fit wise it is very ovale. I can only compare to a Giro Source MTB helmet that works ok for me, and the Sweet Protection is more ovale at a similar size (M/L).
The polar opposite would be a POC ventral, where my head touches the back and front while there still is more than 1cm gap on the sides.
I just got one (arrived yesterday). First impressions are very good - it seems to tick all the boxes for me (comfortable, light, good safety rating, does reasonably well in aero testing for a vented helmet). I took it out yesterday and pretty quickly forgot I was wearing it, which is about the highest praise I would give a helmet.
Only downside I can think of is the price, which is obviously very much towards the upper end.
Fit/comfort obviously depends on your head shape - I agree this is very much on the oval end of the spectrum (which suits me).
What helmets have you tried in the past that fit well?
So this is intended to replace a Kask Protone, which was ok fit wise, although part of the reason for changing was that I never found it very comfortable. Before that I had a POC Ventral, which I was perfectly happy with (until it was written off in a crash…)
In terms of helmets I haven’t got on with, I definitely bought and returned a Lazer Genesis because that did not fit well (too round). I think there have been others too, although can’t remember exactly which ones (this would have been years ago now…)
I just bought one of these and I like the fit so far. Interestingly, something in the fit seems to encourage it to sit very horizontal on my head, whereas some other helmets will tilt backwards naturally
I’m blown away by the ventilation too. The venting that they have done at the front around the forehead is fantastic
What helmets before the Sweet Protection lid have fit well? I’m just trying get a feel for how The Falconer 2Vi MIPS might fit my skull by those that the like the Sweet Protection helmet and what has fit well before. I’ve been using Bell and Giro for quite a while, with Giro fitting slightly better.
Very oval. Even more so than specialized. That’s a good thing for me. Not the greatest ventilation. And the large isn’t huge, but that’s only a problem if you have a really big noggin.
They’re very ‘long oval’ which was perfect for me. Glad I made the effort to import one from Finland to Australia . Came from a size large Giro Eclipse Spherical, the sweet protection fits much nicer with less front and rear pressure relative to the sides
Do you think you could measure the internal length and width of the Sweet Protection helmet? I’d like to compare those dimensions to the same dimensions on my large Giro Eclipse Spherical.
21cm L x 16cm W
For reference my giro is 20.5L x 17W
Very arbitrary measurement with a tape measure but does show the ovalness
Much appreciated. Thanks!
