I’m installing a NOS SRAM Force 22 groupset on my bike, and SRAM’s instructional video for yaw derailleurs says to use the guide marker on the inside of the cage for initial setup as long as you haven’t fiddled with the limit screws, but that seems to set the cage too high (5-6mm gap). Should I ignore that and go with the usual 1-2mm that’s also recommended by several other YouTube mechanics for these derailleurs?
Stick with that guidance in my experience - as long as the limit screws end up where they need to be the gap shouldn’t be a problem.
Thanks Rich. Knowing your love of SRAM’s mechanical groups, I should’ve just come straight to you!
It’s hard not to love a group that you can actually work on, and upgrade from 10 to 11, 12 or 13 speeds!
I set mine up the old school 1-2 mm. Maybe that’s why it occasionally drops the chain ( both directions). It couldn’t be that I shift incorrectly!![]()
The guide line can only be used the first time because the limit screws are set up a certain way at the factory. Once they’re adjusted, the line becomes useless. SRAM doesn’t help by stating that you should use the 1-2mm method in the written instructions either, and their setup video on YouTube leaves out steps.
Leonard Zinn has written a good article about it. https://velo.outsideonline.com/road/road-racing/technical-faq-breaking-down-the-setup-for-the-sram-yaw-front-derailleur/
