Spoiler-free visual stage summary

As someone who regularly watches replays of road races in the US many hours after they have finished in Europe, and unfortunately does not have the free time to watch all 5 hours of each race, I’ve always wanted some sort of cheat-sheet to refer to so I know what parts of the race I should watch and what parts I can skip forward through without missing anything critical. After following the World Cup for the last month and change (and also not having the time to watch as much as I’d like), the simple game summary images (see below) made me think a similar thing could be overlaid on a stage profile.

I am no graphic designer, but I think it would be great to be able to pull up an image like the one below to see things like where the breakaway got established, when there is a significant attack, or a crash, or a key rider got dropped, etc. I’m sure there are lots of other things… what am I missing? Would love to hear other ideas and see some better execution, but mostly I just want to wish this into reality. Maybe Escape will have the money for this when it hits a million members

HBO has a great feature in replays where you can skip forward to specific events, such as attacks or crashes

This is something I’ve made! For the men’s classics and World Championships. Here’s a sampler.

Yeah! Basically I want that but with no names so you know where interesting stuff happens but you don’t spoil any results. Do you do those manually?

I get what you mean. A spoiler-free version could be possible with the graphics I made. I have some ideas for next year’s races. I think it would be simple to remove the names under the key moments.

Yes, I do make these by hand in Adobe Illustrator.

I had this thought as well this summer. My idea was that the scrubber / progress bar at the bottom of the video would be the course profile, so you could a) see where the race was if you were tuning in live, but late, and b) be able to go back to a very specific point in the race.

I just want a spoiler-free way to load the ticker from PCS or some other source in start to end order, then scroll forward as I watch… That would be very easy for a site with a ticker to set up.

Would the Tour Tracker app work ? You might have to be careful opening up the day’s stage progress but with some familiarity with the app could probably avoid spoilers and find a suitable place to start watching.

I used it for the main TdeF but don’t have the level of subscription for TdeFFavecZ, it might have a free trial though for new users

Is the data on stage profiles freely available anywhere? It is maybe possible to code something up that could be applied to many races.
