My new speedplay pedals are clicking, very specifically they click when riding out of saddle on the drive side downstroke AND the first rotation after sitting. I swapped pedals with my gravel bike and the clicking went away so I’m quite sure this is a pedal issue.
Is it possible that the baseplate is not perfectly flush with the sole? This should cause more persistent creaking than what you describe, but that’s my first thought. To check this, you’d have to dismount the cleat and hold a ruler against the base plate.
Are you also using new Speedplay cleats with your new pedals? If you are, check to make sure you are using the proper shims. I had been using Speedplay pedals for years before I bought Wahoo version and when I installed them on my Specialized SW7 shoes, I used the factory shims (5-F/R). When I was climbing., I would have some play in the cleat/pedal and I would hear a slight rattle. After swapping to the proper shims (6-F/R), the issue went away.
I’m going to disassembly and reassemble tonight and see if that works. I will say I’ve had to warranty one pair of Wahoo pedals for the in out play and if that happens again with these I’ll just be done with speedplay.
I’ve had similar issues as well using the new (old) wahoo purchased packaged cleats. I find them to click as I approach disengagement on one side. Don’t believe I hear it when I ride however. I also had a spring that was extremely tight and ended up swapping in an older Speedplay spring which fixed the issue. May want just try that as well. Good luck.
