Single speed handlebar

My single speed pub bike needs a new handlebar. Does anyone have a good recommendation for something with a bit of rise, and not too swept-back. The sort of thing that @Iain_Treloar put on his AliExpress bike would be ideal…

The one on my AliExpress bike is a Veloci Open Bar – I wrote about it a bit in my favourite things list. It’s really great, and I’m super stoked about it (good value too, which is probably important for a pub bike). Other ones that I looked at were the Ritchey Kyote (a bit wider, but you can cut it down I guess); there’s a fair few others to consider, depending on the precise specs you need, but either of those two are a good starting point I think.

I have a Kyote on my commuter, cut it down (mayube 20mm each end) after a while as it is VERY wide out of the box. Otherwise a very nice bar, super comfy position with some Ergon grips.

I was sure you’d mentioned something somewhere but couldn’t find it (I even went to the trouble of AI-transcribing the AliExpress bike pod to search for it because I thought it might be in there somewhere!) Thanks.

When building similar commuter bikes for myself and family, I have often found a cheapish MTB handlebar which I have cut to desired width. You can find MTB handlebars with up to 50 mm rise (I usually go for around 30 mm) and the selection is larger = easier to find a good deal.

Added bonus is that diameter at stem matches most stems, whereas a lot of more old-fashioned handlebars tend to be narrrower (22,? mm), if I remember correctly.

MTB handlebars usually don’t have the same rear sweep, so that’s something to consider.
