Has anyone managed to work out WTF happens to packages that take multiple weeks to travel from the US to Australia??
I decided to stop procrastinating on my new winter jersey purchase on the 9th of July so that I could wear my fantastic new kit during winter - NOT spring.
My order has now been somewhere between LA and Sydney for more than 2 weeks.
Does USPS use kayaks for non-express deliveries??
I am trying to be patient - I know this stuff happens some times but why this time and what the feck causes these sort of delays. I’ve also had purchases from the US arrive in Canberra in less than 3 days FFS.
It really stings when I get emails asking if I like my kit, when it’s supposedly not even in the county yet! I have mentioned this to Ornot and agreed I need to chill out (LOL) and wait….
I want my stuff!

That seems like a long time, but I guess it’s the USPS special. I get packages from Attaquer in Australia to Canada in 3 days usually, but that’s DHL.
Yep, I can’t remember which brand it was but I’ve had stuff from the US in 2-3 days!
I could cope with 7-10 days but 13 days of “with international carrier” is really painful.
For what it’s worth, my Ornot orders to Canada have also taken fairly long. I think it’s a USPS problem, unfortunately.
I’d just really like to know whose warehouse my parcel has been lost in!
Is it sitting with USPS in LA, or if there’s a 3rd party carrier who lost it in their transfer dock, or HTF does this happen. How can some things take 3 days from US to CBR and somethings just fall in a black hole!?
USPS say it left LA but is it actually still in their warehouse, either lost in a dark corner, or in a container waiting until that container is full before they send it??
It’s curious that AusPost say it has NOT been handed over to the international carrier yet.
I hope someone finds it under their desk soon!
It’s got me wishing I could opt for adding an airtag to my international parcels!
Holy Carp! My parcel has finally arrived in Aus!
I’ve been feeling like an idiot refreshing the tracking website every day for a month! It looks like it should arrive on Monday - exactly one month since it was shipped!

I finally got to try some of my Ornot jerseys this weekend, having been injured since they arrived. OMG I love them! So well made and low key branding.
OTOH, I wish Ornot would use DHL for delivery. I bought a Wolftooth pump with clik head from Wolftooth in the US at 11pm Thursday and it just arrived at 8:30am Monday. I’m still waiting for the valves I bought from CCache in Sydney on Wednesday!
Sadly this is quite common with USPS. It’s best avoided if you’re in a hurry.
DHL, UPS, and FedEx all deliver in a timely manner. DHL is the most dialled in my experience.

I’m wondering if it’s rude to ask Ornot to use DHL instead of USPS. Wolftooth still gave free shipping for my pump!

I wonder if I could send an AirTag to Ornot to pack with my next parcel so I can see where it goes for its month long detour !?
Ornot have confirmed that USPS is my only option.
I’m making another order but don’t care if it takes 2 months to arrive this time.
To add insult to injury, I just tried to setup an account on USPS. I had one about 5 years ago but it says it’s been disabled. So then I tried to make a new account… The new account system lets me enter a page full of details and then when I click the button to make the account, it comes back with “the system is unavailable”. This would be ok, except it locks up the user name I entered and being the gullible idiot I am, I’ve tried about 4 times so I’m running out of username ideas!
In the first instance I simply entered a username to check it was available, and then closed the page without saving it but that username is no longer available. What a marvelous system.
More to the point, I’m just frustrated that I can’t check if the system is fixed without using another user name and wasting time entering a page of info. So even if I wanted to setup alerts for my next package, their computer says no.
Holy carp!
My 2nd order that I made in August was weirdly shipped via GlobalPost and arrived in about a week after shipping - with nice transparent tracking information.
So then I made another purchase 2 weeks ago and asked them to use GlobalPost again, which they kindly agreed to do and sent me my “GlobalPost tracking number” which was actually USPS again.
It seems that even when the warehouse was asked to use GP, they accidentally clicked the wrong button!!
To my surprise, this package only took 10 days to “depart” Sydney airport!! So it arrived in Aus and went through our airport.
and then it’s disappeared again…
So I don’t actually know if it’s “departed” Sydney to go back to the US, or just to fall into that abyss again for another month.
FFS, actually getting my stuff delivered has ruined the entire experience of buying this lovely kit.
But the most insane part is that the long sleeve jersey I was trying to buy in August (in a particular colour that they expected to be available early September) has still not been delivered - their workshop has refused to deliver that one colour of that one jersey that I thought I wanted. Wow. WTAF?
OMFG! I should rant publicly here more often - 2 hours later and the bloody tracking has finally updated to “processed through facility”.
Hey, I used to work with UPS for about 10 years in international shipping. Two things stick out to me here:
-
I believe Globalpost is not a shipping company in the way that USPS, UPS, DHL, etc are. They are actually a consolidator, meaning they just collect your shipment, group it with others, and then turn it over to a shipping company to move. While not always apparent from their tracking this is what’s happening in the background.
-
In scenarios like yours, friends would reach out to me to look in the internal tracking system, to see what was going on. It was almost always a Customs hold. There wasn’t really much that could be done about it, but generally Customs would release it in a week or two. I don’t know why they don’t just show this to the customer. They could avoid many irate phone calls from the customer.

Hi Jack,
thanks for those insights.
It does seem weird that USPS parcels get trapped so much longer than the other services I’ve had deliveries by.
Just to keep the suspense, the Aus Post app says my parcel is in Canberra at 7:30am this morning, but if I click on the item to see more detail, it then loses this morning’s update and only shows the latest update as yesterday afternoon’s 3pm update in Sydney.
Cursed I tells ya, it’s cursed!!
Dear McCookie. One issue is perhaps staring at us in plain sight. Our location in the nation’s capital; yes, the epicendure of this wide brown land, Canberra. We went on a holiday to Yamba in northern NSW a couple of weeks ago which required two flights - CBR-SYD then SYD to Coolangatta ( I can’t remember the three word nomenclature) and of course our luggage didn’t arrive, stayed in Sydney. Everything that comes here has at least one extra leg. Qantas said it wasn’t their fault as they have outsourced their baggage handling to a mob called Swissport. It is the price we must pay for living in the cycling nirvana that is CBR. Happy riding, whether it be the Cotter/Uriarra/Tharwa loop or the Centennary Trail on your wide tyre steed of choice.
