Road tubeless with vittoria insert issue

Hi folks,

I’ve set up my gp5k str on zipp 404 FC with vittoria air liners with no issues (challenging yes but done). I’ve now switched the tire from 30 to 28c same brand due to frame fit issues. This time when I inject orange sealant using a steel needle (similar to the park tool injector), most of the sealant squirts back out. I try to move the liner over with my hand but it hasn’t worked. I’ve cleaned the valve stem out and there are grooves at the top of the valve stem (inside the rim)which would allow sealant to move past the liner. Anyone else run into this issue?

I’ve never figured out how to use an injector to add sealant with inserts. I resort to squeezing sealant in using the regular tube applicator that comes with 8oz OS bottles, rotating the tire until the valve is at the ~3:30/8:30 position before removing the bottle so that the sealant flows downward instead of being pushed out. This is with Muc-Off valves with the side holes, similar to Vittoria’s.
