Road tubeless curious

Love tubeless. Only flat in 3 years is when I let the sealant dry out. Conti 5000 str size 32. Fast and comfortable. I couldn’t imagine going back to tubes.

What’s the internal width on the wheels sporting the 32mm GP5K TRs tires? How wide do the tires measure when inflated?

Good question. They are 25 mm internal hookless rims and the measured width is 33.5

It’ll probably be the Eclipse brand Eclipse TPU Tube Sealant – Eclipse tubes Australia

I’ve been riding road tubeless since 2021; and almost exclusively ride in a glass-ridden US city. I am currently running 30mm Conti 5K STR as a commuter tire, and it works great. I am pretty picky about my setup, mostly as I like my tubeless setups to be as reliable as possible.

I only like running Fillmore valves (that I rebuild on a yearly basis) and Orange Seal sealant (it has the least drawbacks, least worst cleanup, and works the best from my experience) Small punctures get plugged up by sealant, while bigger punctures will require the use of one to several dynaplugs (or worst, putting a tube in). I like DT Swiss tubeless tape for ease of use/consistency of quality. I used to run road tires with multiple dynaplugs in them- where they wear naturally (at the risk of them falling inward with rapid depressurization, a very exciting failure mode). I now remove the dynaplugs when I get home, and use the morbidly overpriced Lezyne tubeless tire patch kits (which work quite well) to keep my tires going.

Using bacon strips on road tubeless is genuinely horrible, and I will not use any other plug kit except Dynaplug for real-world usability reasons; and Muc-off sealant is something I truly regret ever using (due to how awful it is to clean from a frame).

Hey Romeo @Dave_Rome, Hels @Helen_Curtis wants to know how we fit new rubber into the Dynaplug metal tips that she just recovered from her dead tyre.
They’re really too expensive for single use!
It seems ironic that we can reuse the 3D printed plastic ones we got, but seemingly not the expensive metal ones.

Sadly they’re very much single-use.

I did have 3 in that one tyre - from 3 different occasions, so I guess they all did their job… ie cheaper than a new tyre for each puncture!

Could we get a Collective Favorites or a poll going on favorite road tire sealant? After a recent frustrating flat on my commute — pump kept unscrewing the valve core on the replacement tube — I’m reconsidering tubeless and do not know which sealant would be best for my use case.

You have the option to create a poll if you’d like. Just click the “New Topic” button, then in the toolbar, click the “+” button and select “Build poll” in the in the drop down list that pops. You also add a poll in a topic that already exists. I think you’d get more responses, though, if the poll was in its own topic.
