No hate here, just a catalog of mispronunciations, parapraxes, and spoonerisms from our beloved NBC commentators, whose prime is well behind them and knowledge of the pro peloton is on-par with a couple of Parisian pigeons.
Liggett, 2025 TdF Stage 3: “Tadej Pogačar … who has been winning at the TdF since 1921.”
Say what you will about Bob and Phil, but we can all agree that Tejay van Gardener’s post-race contributions are enemy #1 right?
I once heard Phil say that Atle Kvalsvoll won, took second and placed 3rd in the 1991 Tour DuPont…all in the same sentence ![]()
Oh, absolutely. RIP GCN.
Bob dropped a classic “OHHH NOOOO!!” during the Almeida crash today.
It was SO LOUD.

Peacock have to be the gift that keeps giving to SBS & vpns everywhere.
Apparently Adri van der Poel was in the break again today. Over and over. And over.
Every. Damned. Day. Adri didn’t get this many mentions when he was racing.
I just can’t anymore. I pay for Flobikes and pretend I’m Canadian (via VPN) to avoid it. Though last year’s Bobke freakout at Tejay was a classic.

But putting Tejay van Garderen in a suit and tie is silly. Those whole segments are ugh.
Bob adding an “a” at the end of Amirail’s name. “Amiraila”. Phil mistaking Arnaud DeLie for Demare. It’s a mess. No hate, because I loved when it was Phil and Paul, but never a Bobke fan on comms. Yesterday, it seemed for a while that they forgot that Healy was in yellow, not Tadej. I sometimes turn the sound off. I can watch TNT coverage, ahem, with a workaround that is unsteady. But the gold standard of GCN+ is sorely missed.
Considering going that way…
I actually think that the covererage this year has been pretty good. Though I certainly miss Carlton Kirby. I think I miss most are Jose Been’s cultural stage reviews on the podcast!
Today the VPN became too choppy and I had to jump over to peacock
It was like turning the video to .5 speed. Such a drop in energy and enthusiasm.
I don’t think it’s just age, I think phil is genuinely bored - they’re really short changing the viewer from the tour experience by putting such a low energy team on it.
Just wanted to make note of our beloved Phil Liggett never calling Mathieu van der Poel by the correct first name.
It may have happened every time Phil mentioned MDVP this tour (before MDVP’s unfortunately abandon).
The only redeeming aspect of this Liggettism is Bobke’s scintillating reaction speed to correct him — he’s had the correction holstered and ready to fire instantaneously.
No thread about this commentary team would be complete without mentioning Bob constantly referring to riders as “in full cry” regardless of how hard they were riding or the circumstances.
They were fine. Not great, just fine. Once TDFF I’ll be happy to go back to watching racing on Max
