Nextie "Special" Rims

I’m building up a new set of wheels because… I guess I just feel like building some wheels :person_shrugging:

In the past, I’ve always used Nextie ARXs; my Tarmac currently has 49/54 depth. They have a good internal width and a pretty generic profile.

It looks like they’ve recently added the Alpha 50 and Ripple 50. Has anyone tried these? I can’t decide whether the special features of these wheels are just a gimmick or actually improve performance over the ARX.

I have the WR40, Turbo50 wavy rims from LightBicycle. I think it may help a bit with crosswind stability, also they claim it improves lateral stiffness, which sounds plausible. The Nextie Ripple seems a bit less wavy.

The Alpha50 is extremely light, I think the reinforced spoke holes aren’t just a gimmick, it’s necessary.

I don’t notice a difference when swapping 40mm deep wheels which are 1450g vs 1300g.
