NEW Vittoria Terreno Pro Tyres - Why so heavy?

I’ve been waiting for these to appear. I had been assuming that they would be slightly lighter than the non-pro Terreno tyres that have been around for a while.

The Terreno Pro T50 in 45c is 670g.

The Terreno Endurance T50 in 45c and brown is 530g.

This is huge difference based on Vittoria’s published figures.

I’ve been looking for a new tyre ever since the S-Works Pathfinders were discontinued. I only have two spares left…

Hi Paul: I don’t have a real answer for you but I’m sure the smart kids will help. You question brings to mind the challenge in physics from the late c19 at weighing the air. They had found nitrogen, oxygen etc but the sum of the weights didn’t equal the total. This led, ultimately, to the discovery of the noble gasses. In the same way, I think the extra weight of these tyres is the spirit of gravel. Noble, unseen, but definitely there.

Having a quick look at them, they’re made up of completely different materials. They’re marketed as using eco friendly materials and I wouldn’t always read „pro“ as fast (similar to pro being Cube’s entry level specs of bikes). The 7% faster they specify on their website is vs. the average gravel tire and I would suspect the non-pro Terreno to be even faster.

You could well be right. I may be expecting too much for the terms from their road tyre range to apply to their others.

I forgot about that… It’s indeed a bit odd
