MTB shoe drilling for rearward cleat placement

Just ordered a pair of Quoc Grand Tourer XC mtb shoes. I’ve been riding Giro shoes for a long time and now they’re a bit tired. I drilled my Giros to place my cleats 2.5cm behind the ball of my foot. (the bone at the big toe)

Was wondering if anyone out there has drilled Quoc shoes…NOT looking for cleat placement advice..please

Thanks All

I had good luck using a dremel w/ a small cylindrical bit to elongate the channels to the end of the tread line. The plastic of the sole is very robust so using something like an xacto blade will take a long while/not be easy. Once elongated, the SPD insert easily slides almost all the way towards the end. I didn’t take the inside of the shoe apart. The only issue I found is that if I ran the cleats off the end, there was some side to side rock because there is less sole (and some angulation) to contact the regular sized pedal body (I was using Look xtrac – standard SPD size). I found this a great reason to upgrade to the new Wolf Tooth CNTRL pedals which have definitely improved the pedal/shoe interface. Full disclosure, as a nostalgic mountain bike time pedal user — I kind of like some slop!

This was my bit of choice (1/3 the width of the channel, but I expect any will do)
