MAAP Atmos jacket vs the Albion All Road Pertex Shield rain jacket?

Does anyone have any experience with either of these or both in the rain?

I got the Atmos, Albion a bit heavy for here as in Perth. They do make great gear from all I have read /heard ( and the cool idea of puffy insert)!

Other jackets are Rapha Core ( sweat a lot, the new series may be better, have had 3 generations of it ), Shakedry ( only Kathmandu but had a hood and was good for MTB, bad zip though ) . Altura for heavy MTB rain ( unusual in Perth but good for NZ / Tassie. Mont lightweight for mtb but cuffs don’t cinch and runs very large so more walking, packs down ++

You might be able to find an old Castelli shakedry but rare. Fit for Castelli always a but odd, rarely on sale.

I’ll keep using the shake dry on gravel as well as MTB as it cleans super well.

Looked at all the reviews ( sweats a bit less) and Atmos suited my needs, I already had the vest. I’m in between sizes ( M/L) so went large for layering .

Only been in light rain , happy . I wore it on a fine but cold ( for us ) 5 deg , as one of the reviews said could use as a wind jacket but it’s too sealed for that . I got quite warm .. I do run hot .

I have the MAAp training winter jacket and only use it on our -0-5 mornings. Got it at less than half price .

Atmos was only $70 off.

I am still happy as it packs down so small. Torrential rain .. you need goretex. It will also be great for any bike travel.

Santini have the Guard Nimbus ( maybe on sale in Aus currently ) and Magic but unisex . One review said Guard sleeves ran short

I don’t think you’ll regret the Atmos, and it’s colder where you are.

Enjoy your Atmos !

I can attest to how good the Atmosphere is. It has defeated the heavy rain I experienced frequently as a Vancouver resident and it’s light enough and storable enough to take on this warm, wet shoulder season days of spring.

I’ve repeatedly tried to find a Shakedry jacket in my size without any luck. I think I’m more likely to find a Fabergé egg for $5 USD at a garage sale.

How big are you guys, and what size Atmos did you end up with? I’m about 6’ 0.5” (184 cm) and weigh between 175 and 182 pounds (80-83kg), depending on how much baking my wife has done around the time of the weigh-in.

Shakedry was banned a few years ago because of the PFPS.

I know, but I keep looking just in case someone found a jacket on forgotten shelf in dark storeroom.

On the topic of PFAS, as far as I know MAAP continues to use tha older gen fabrics that have them, Albion has the newer membrane (unless maap has changed things and just don’t mention it on the product discription, which I doubt). Not that this should dictate which one you buy, just saying

 Good luck with that.

Don’t both jackets use Pertex Shield?

Yup, both use the Shield but there are more than one versions of that fabric (2, 2.5 and 3-layer, etc) and Maap is pretty vague regarding what membrane/tech they use on the Atmos. If it’s not a 3-layer like the Albion, then it could have a spray/laminate coating (containing pfas) on the inside to create the same shield from grease/sweat/etc as the third coating does without chemicals. Tl:dr, can’t be sure with Maap as they are very quiet about PFAS and coatings they use (and have refused to comment when I’ve asked). The Atmos also has no mention about bluesign, which would indicate it was pfas free (bluesign has required the approved fabrics to be pfas free since January 2025).

Keeping quiet on something that’s a concern to a lot of customers isn’t a good look. If their products were PFAS free, you’d think they’d open about that, doubly so given the news on PFAS and the shift away from PFAS by a lot of manufacturers in the industry.
