Coming from Specialized Prevail 1 & 2 with a removable visor that fit me nicely + are reasonably light & well ventilated.
I’m looking for an XC (or road or gravel) helmet that has a small visor similar to the Prevail in the ~1-2 cm range, the extra bit of cover is helpful in sunny southern California. Ordered a Lazer Cerro KenitiCore to try out. Mavic Crossride SL Elite seems like an option but not available.
Any recommendations?
This sounds like why I like my favourite helmet that is also hard to find / discontinued.
I’ve never seen a Prevail with visor? Can you share an image of that?
The Scott Fuga Plus is a cheapish helmet with removable visor - I will be wearing mine in Japan so it can serve as a roadie helmet on group rides then revert to “touring” duty with visor.
It doesn’t seem to be on Scott’s website now - I got a new one recently from an Australian online shop.
I thought Josh wrote an article bemoaning the lack of adjustable visors on helmets but I just failed to find that article…
POC Cularis? Haven’t tried one yet but reviews are good for ventilation.
The visor attaches to the helmet w/ 2 small prongs in the center of the ‘mouth inlet’, when I got a P2 no visor was provided so I pulled off the plastic tab cover & inserted the old one.
Don’t know if this is quite what you’re looking for, but I have the Fox Crossframe, which has a small peak. It works really well for me across XC and gravel, but it obviously has an aero compromise if that’s your thing. There are some good pics in this review - I’ve not personally had any issues that the reviewer notes, and the helmet is available much cheaper these days. I really rate it.
I am always looking for this too. Ive made two mistakes. 1, went to an mtb helmet and the wind noise it created in my ears was horrific. 2, found another mtb based helmet with a peak, but the peak wasn’t actually adjustable, sometimes you just want to be able to flip it up 10 degrees. I too wanted a helmet with a visor that wasn’t as heavy as my MTB helmests, and settled on this. The fit and comfort are just fine; one note, the sides above the temples and along the side of the helmet are narrow in comparison to an MTB helmet…so, it one falls and slams the head sideways, the bulge that strikes the ground first isn’t as large. https://www.met-helmets.com/en/shop/gravel-helmets/allroad-wander/

Have you considered taking a cycling cap and cutting the top out to make it a visor?
