Look Keo 2 Max Pedal Issue

Hi All,

I just noticed my Look Keo 2 Max pedal has some side-to-side play of approx 3mm along the axle. This doesn’t seem normal particularly considering my other pedal on this same bike, and other Look pedals on another bike don’t do this.

These are probably about 8 years old.

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Patrick

Not sure what is happening but if you remove from the crank you can unscrew the axle by gripping the contour plastic bit in your circle (like with pipe grips) then rotate the pedal.

You can then maybe see what is happening. You can aslo clean inside the pedal body and around the axle, put fresh grease on the axle and put back in. I know thats not likely the cause but by removing the axle you might be able to see. Be careful as the contour plastic part is easy to damage (soft) so use a wrag around it. There’s maybe a specific tool!

I agree with disassembly and investigation of the cause. That said, 8 years of use without issue is pretty good. A new pair of pedals might be a nice present to yourself. I’m assuming there was minimal maintenance of the pedal you are asking about.

Thanks. Surely a broken pedal is grounds for a new bike?!

I recently replaced the bearings in my Keo 2 Max pedals. Easy job and they will roll on for another 20,000km

Even considering mileage and typical weather conditions, i would agree with @Jeff_Schiller that 8 years is a pretty good lifespan. So maybe consider disasembly and investigation as a way of getting a few months only, assuming you can do anything - then keep your eyes out for discounts on a new pair!

For what it’s worth, I see bearing play on Look pedals more than any other in my workshop - I’d say 8yrs is impressive.
