a friend has a 7 year old with a muscle power issue so really struggles with hip and shoulder strength, does anyone know of light kids e-bikes that would help with movement but not too heavy to pick up if it falls over.
They’re based in nz and would go custom if someone could help. The battery is probably the limiting factor for weight but distance isn’t a goal so using an isolated range Extender might be the soliton if that works as a primary power for journeys maxing at 10k
I am not aware of many kids e-bikes, but, how about a conversion?
There are mid drive conversions available from Bafang and one or two others though. Need to be careful with the battery choice though, and likely best to go with local supplier if possible to ensure compliance with local regulations.
Going with conversion kit would allow it to be moved from bike to bike as the child grows.
My kid (also 7) rides a Mondraker F-trick 24. It’s just a tad too big for him, but he’s growing into it quickly. I had to remove the dropper post for now.
It’s not light. But there is an E bike version available. Hub drive though.
Specialized do a kids version of the Levo SL. It’s 24” and weighs 16 kg, but you could remove the big down tube battery and just use the range extender to save some weight.
