The inline barrel adjuster unscrews itself whenever I change to the middle ring on my 105 5700 triple ring. It then doesn’t habe enough tension to shift up again. Any loctite that would help? I only have the blue one but I heard there are others too
I had similar issues; I don’t recall if it occurred during or immediately after shifting. It bothered me so much, that I jist removed the in-lime barrel adjuster when I last replaced cables. My levers are 105 Series 5800, I believe… good luck! I’ll be watching this thread
I’d possibly look at a different adjuster. Looking in my toolbox, I’ve x4 different inline adjusters for gear cables (see photo).
They fall into two types
- ones like your one @luap where an outer cable ferrule is required (the two on the left in the photo).
- ones where the outer cable pushes directly into the adjuster (ones on the right).
I personally prefer the ones that do not need ferrules as find they grip the cable quite tight and stop the unwinding you are experiencing.
My choise, and what I fit to bikes when replacing cables, is the one 2nd in from the right with the silver body (you can get black ones as well). They grip the cable nicely and are easy to adjust. I find the Jagwire one at the end can sometimes leave you with a less than ideal cable orientation because only a very small amount of outer vable goes into the adjuster.
Hope that helps.
Do you recall where you got the Silver one your recommend? I am eager to try these after my poor experience with other types
Thanks a lot @WCS_Alex! Will get one with my next bike parts purchase as it’s not super urgent
I dont but they look to be Jagwire pro indexed adjusters. The ‘mini’ version is the one far right on ym photo, those I dont really like using.
