Indoor riding in adland

I was scanning the seasonal(northern hemisphere) flood of articles on indoor training and realized that the setups pictured looked nothing like what I know from real life.

The trainer is typically set up on a gleaming floor without a trace of sweat or chain lube. The setting is a sunny high-end living room, minimalist and immaculate, with no other bike stuff in sight. The rider is neatly attired and not sweating.

Does anyone really train like that? :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m in the barn with the mice and a propane heater. My old stereo has to suffice because the Internet doesn’t extend that far! I don’t generally have to worry about sweat… and it gets light at 7:30 and dark at 6:30 so generally no sunlight! Awesome.

My stationary is located in a sylvan glade, surrounded by woodland creatures and songbirds, near a natural spring bounded by moss-covered rocks.

It’s like all the car ads where there’s no other traffic in sight–alternate reality stuff

I’m the in corner of my woodshop on an old Centurian with my iPad on the drill press table.

Cool rig! What are the red things providing the squish in your rocker plate?

Inflatable balls to act as springs.

Since I didn’t know if I’d like a rocker plate, all other materials are scraps from the shop so my rocker plate investment was $15.

I’m in an unfinished basement with the other basement clutter. Screen is on a stand I built with plywood and 2x4s. Fan is sitting on an old chest freezer. And when I’m into a good workout I’m definitely not ready for a glamour photo op.

The artful trainer photos are like the gym ads that show happy smiling non-sweaty people lifting weights. :slightly_smiling_face:
