How to keep the GC battle interesting in the Pogacar era

There’s talk that ASO designed the course with the aim to have a decisive GC battle at the end, that’s why there are no massive mountain stages in the Pyrenees. Well, that backfired. Got me thinking though, what could be done to make the GC battle more exciting. The aim is not to make Pogacar lose persé, but to make it a challenge.

There are obviously no serious answers, so feel free to go nuts.

My thoughts:

  • 20 sprint stages with boni seconds on the line followed by the Montmartre circuit.
  • HC climbs at the start of the stage instead of at the end. Like 150km from the finish.
  • 100km TTT

Throw a very long - like 120km TTT - between two mountain stages, and go back to taking the time at the 4th or 5th rider. Plus disallow TT bikes. Force riders to only being able to use 1 frame type throughout the entire tour.
