Giro helmet strap creep

My Giro Eclipse Pro chin strap seems to loosen very quickly, i.e. almost after every ride or every other ride. What I mean is that the straps that feed through the male part of the under-chin buckle gradually creep outwards, such that the strap becomes loose and needs to be tightened up again very regularly.

This problem seems to be much worse on my Giro helmets than on other brands I’ve used in the past.

Is there a way to prevent this? It’s a real hassle because tightening the strap is quite fiddly with the excess cut off and the little rubber keeper thing.

I always get the helmet straps adjusted to my liking then use a needle and thread to stitch down the strap to itself at the buckle.

Exactly this, then cut off the excess with a hot knife.

Thanks both! Yes, that’s a great idea. I’ve already cut the strap to length, but didn’t think about sewing it down.
