Geek Warning: suggestion

I really love this podcast: I think the real-life, non marketing , content is a gem and super valuable -with the tour going on, i did have a thought though.

It feels like every year theres some new breakthrough tech and I always wonder about what came before.

It would be great to have a segment revisiting an old tech breakthroughs; compression clothing, wide bars, ice boots, that crankset where the cranks each had its own freehub - what happened to them? Are they still being used? was it debunked? did it just fall out of fashion?

just an idea, but it would be interesting to re-visit yesterdays ‘tomorrow’s’ technology

I would love this - there have been so many ‘leap-forward’ products over the years that wither on the vine. It would be fantastic fodder for an EC article!

PowerCranks? Junk….at least in terms of what they claim they do. I do think they have some value as a rehab tool for some injuries, but they absolutely will not cause you to increase your power output.

Yeah, like oval chain-rings, and flex-stems. Personally I’m sticking with tubes until they are cool again.

Interesting, I find the tour stuff so dull and irrelevant to real world cycling. Time triailling stuff doubly so. Luckily podcasts are so easy to skip through. The ask the mechanic is excellent. The tech news parts are good just weighted too much in favour of (yawn) mainstream US brands.

I like your idea of revisiting tech, kind of “where is it now” might make a fun segment for a while.
