I’m building up a used Bianchi Infinito. The frame didn’t come with grommets for the brake hoses. I’ve reached out to Bianchi about the part I need. I was wondering if anyone knows of a ‘generic’ option for an angled frame port like this. I attempted to measure the diameter of the hole, which is 7-8mm by my best measure. The holes look the same on the downtube, chainstay, and fork.
I would like to think bike shops have a bunch of these spares lying around, from various bikes, and with some trial and error they’d find some that work. May take a couple visits to a couple shops, but I’d guess that’d work. I’ll be curious to hear from shop staff here if that’s indeed the case…
Also wouldn’t be totally surprised if some company like Jagwire sold a kit (to shops) with a bunch of spares of various sizes….
As a last resort, this is definitely something creatable on a 3D printer.
No grommets originally, the hose just passes straight through into the downtube. I’ve no personal experience with the Infinito but had a similar setup on a Scott Addict. Only thing to note is that it’s almost essential to feed some foam tubing over the hose to eliminate annoying rattling inside the tube. Jagwire sell this as Housing Damping Foam.
That would explain why I can’t find any. Thanks for the pic.
Cannondale makes some grommet which could work: CANNONDALE Rubber Brake Hosing Grommets - CICLIMATTIO
I tried to 3D print replacement for friend. In my case is trouble not wanting to detach brake hose for this.
Need to rework the model to be split and 2 halves tied back together with thin wire.
Current version where I tried to cut slit in TPU and glue it back on hose is here, could work for you installing new hose:
Or ghetto style you can just build up diameter at spot where it passing frame with tape/heatshrink.
There’s a type of silicone tape that you can wrap around the hose until it’s an appropriate diameter then push it into the frame. Perhaps not the most elegant but effective, cheap and quiet.
I have some of those for my SSE. They’re juuuust a little too big.
I think I’m gonna give heat shrink a try. Will report back.
I use clear silicone caulking. Works for unused holes in the frame too. Such as front and rear derailleur cable holes if you go to wireless shifting.
I have the Jagwire box of grommets and none would fit this very well, in fact I’ve found the grommets generally a little disappointing for anything apart from Di2 cable installation.
I’ve added various sized silicone grommets readily available from Aliexpress to my collection of spares and find them much more useful for filling holes in frames etc.
Any recommendations for ‘blind’ grommets, i.e. just plugs for such a hole? Thanks to Sram AXS I have an unused port on my frame and no plug ![]()
If you can’t find specific plugs, on a previous (black) bike I used Sugru. I then put a silver reflective sticker over top. In hindsight, the Sugru probably wasn’t necessary with the sticker.
I found small conical black rubber plugs of various sizes online, in bags of 25 for pretty cheap. I think they’re for laboratories. Press them into the frame then slice back with a brand new razor blade.
