Fizik shoes sizing (fi’zi:k Lyra)

Hello,

I need new shoes and have noticed that the newly released Fizik shoes use a new last. While the shape of previous Fizik models did not match the shape of my feet, I’d like to give this updated shape a try.

With the new shape, Fizik must also have updated their sizing and size chart. According to the size chart, I should order size 44.5 EU or 11 US. However, I am very reluctant to follow this advice. In my current Specialized Ares shoes, I am wearing size 46 EU or 12.25 US, respectively. Previously, when I tried Fizik shoes, I sized up compared to other brands such as Specialized. Granted, the older Fizik shoes have a completely different shape with a narrow and pointy toe box that does absolutely not reflect the shape of my feet.

Does anyone here have new Fizik shoes with the updated last and can confirm that the wider toe box results in a very different sizing, i.e. nominally smaller sizes?

I haven’t tried the Lyra yet, but we have them at the shop. They definitely look more similar to the wide-fit Fiziks that I’ve worn for years. With my current shoes (Vento Infiniti Knit Carbon Wide) I also had to size down (47→45).

I’ll try to remember to try on a pair of Lyras next week and get back to you.

Hi Jonas,

Sorry for the delay. I tried on the Lyra in 45 and 46 yesterday. The length of the 45 was fine, but they were far too narrow for me. 46 was better in width, but still not comfortable.

The toe box is definitely not narrow and pointy. My big toe is my longest toe, and is fairly straight forward, which means that with some brands (including for example Lake) I have to size up to get a comfortable fit in the toe box. The last Specialized I tried on (Recon Lace, size 47) were fine in the toe box but very painful at the base of my little toe.

I see many customers size down in Fizik compared to what they’re used to. It’s not fully consistent, and depends a bit on foot shape and the desired fit. I’d trust the size chart. If however you have wider feet, the Lyra is probably not going to help, and I’d recommend one of the Wide models.

Hope that helps! Feet are tough!
