Alongside Cosmo’s CX captures of the wild and wacky moves made, usually during WC, Kit often highlights results; their take is usually one of fact and mirth. I can’t rightly say how much I’ve heard Caley disparage ‘cross (or not). But those two stand out for me.
There’s another cyclocross podcast series out now by Ben Frederick.
I think you’re thinking of time trials ![]()
My hatred of CX is 90% a bit, 10% every time we do anything significant with it, the audience is tiny. It’s just not worth a lot of effort when there are so many great, CX-focused options out there (lots listed above!).
I’ve raced pro cross races (not well). Got hipchecked by Ryan Trebon into a fence on time. So while I definitely don’t follow it that closely, I do know how to do it and appreciate the discipline for what it is.
The plan this year is to run galleries+reports for the big races. Kit and I were discussing just this week, actually. That’s a format that captures the sport well without us having to put too many (scarce) resources into it.
This isn’t to say we’ll never do more with it. We’d like to do lots of things we currently can’t - great CX coverage is on that list. But definitely not one for this year.
So original poster here. This thread kinda just started with me hoping/wondering if the road/ mtb calendar would now list CX since those are done for the year. Then is hoped there would just be a basic post of how to watch for each country…which looking back, yall already did that with the first how to watch post of the year. So, not really asking for coverage, just a calendar listing of troffee, world cup and super prestige would be cool.
The answer is yes! We’ve just enabled CX in the Latest Results and Upcoming Races widget on the homepage.
Sounds great, thanks!
And perhaps it’s worth reminding the podcast hosts how influential they are to their listeners. I’d argue it’s better to say nothing than give people reasons to not like some component of the cycling world.
Yes! there’s so much drama and narrative hype in the euro cross - between the Men’s, Women’s. U23s and juniors, always something to discuss between races. You have great history of recently televised content - you could point out some classic Wout vs. Mattieu encounters still on youtube for example. Courses are all so different and vary greatly year to year depending on weather. I would love to see either Johnny or Ian covert cross as noobs. I think if they had to stick it through a whole season, maybe even attend a cross or two, they’d be smitten and so would a whole load of readers/listeners. There’s a lot going on around a cross at the venue or in the town that isn’t covered on TV or pods about just racing adds colour to the scene and experience. It is uniquely and intensely accessible in a way you only get a small piece of attending a road race and looking to the future this is a much more sustainable model of racing, to attend, to take part in and to organise. Don’t be distracted by the shiny lights of le Tour circus. Don’t scared of the roots. Come play in the mud!
Thanks for adding to the calendar, but may i suggest adding super prestige, and exact races, AND maybe dont list every category so the calendar doesnt get filled with one race? Ie, just say tabor is on 23/11 rather than listing it4 times?
Thanks!
couldn’t agree more with everything you’ve said here. I’m a lifelong cyclist (53 y,o., first proper road bike @ 14 y.o., bought my first mountain bike at 19, first gravel bike in 2021, and year-round bike commuter) but never had cable TV or access to racing coverage so wasn’t a racing fan other than catching up from time to time in magazines or online articles. but about 6 years ago I signed up for GCN+ (RIP) and ‘cross races were my gateway drug into becoming a full on cycling fan. as mentioned, the courses are all different and the weather is an additional variable that makes it interesting. races are 45min to an hour which is perfect duration. the full-time cross racers mixing with the cross-over road/MTB superstars like WvA, MVDP, Vos, Puck Pieterse keeps it fresh and adds drama. I live on the west coast, so watching Euro cross races early in the mornings is a great way to start the day. I grudgingly accept that Flo is the best I’ll get for streaming coverage as a Canadian, and I’m doubly thankful that Gregor Brown doesn’t do any ‘cross coverage as that would be a real detriment.
”please add more cyclocross coverage” was my main feedback in the member survey - everyone pining for more cross coverage should pipe up in the survey. I trust the crew at EC to do the right thing if they get member feedback.
More cross coverage gets more people interested in it as well, cross is dying in the US, and I would argue is the best format for development of junior riders.
With the gravel craze, nearly every dedicated bike rider has a gravel bike more than capable of racing cross. Getting more people into cross with bikes they already own can only be good for cross and domestic cycling as a whole.
We are somewhat limited by our data provider here but I am checking into how we can tidy things up.
Yeah - I’ve noticed the data for MTB XC, Cyclocross and track is often missing. Seems to be more difficult to get those disciplines consistently publishing a feed…
Don’t break kayfabe , Caley
I’d be really happy if we could get a weekly Kit’s ‘Cross Corner segment. They seem to have a great perspective and enjoyment of CX. Maybe a Kit & Cosmo ‘Cross Corner?
I love Cyclocross Social. I just started getting into both CX and MTB two years ago. Would love to see what channels that I can VPN into have cyclocross for free… don’t care what the commentary language is…
I’ve listened to Cyclocross Social for the past 5 years or so. Cracks me up that every episode Noah (?) welcomes the listeners and then welcomes Issam who responds “Thank you for having me” as if he is a special guest even though he is on every episode.
Yes, please, here I was, trying to wake up for work on a Sunday morning and I thought, gosh why isn’t there an EC CX podcast? I love cross!
All the cool kids are into cross: Cyclocross... Asking for a Friend - Tom Southam Is Escape losing it’s touch? ![]()
So I did the member survey and didn’t even notice where I was supposed to request more CX and retrogrouchery…
