Wondering how much of not giving a f**k gets lost in translation, when in fact he’s just more relaxed having accepted deep down that he’s not a genuine contender for the TdF, but that he can still be a protagonist/ trouble maker in the race?

100%. The day I’m accomplished enough to answer a question from the media in Slovenian it’ll all be lost in translation because I’ll be fumbling with Google translate. Johnny asking the question like he did should earn him a Pulitzer IMHO. You heard it here first.
