I’m ready to change from using CO2 cartridges for road inner tube inflation to a rechargeable electric pump with a pressure gauge. I’d appreciate recommendations from anyone who has been pleased with what they’ve used.
Updated review by @Dave_Rome supposedly coming.
Will it be part of your road emergency kit? I ask because some of the electronic pumps with pressure gauge are too large to bring on rides. I have the Cycplus AS2 Ultra. It’s small enough to fit in the down tube storage of the MY24 Santa Cruz Stigmata and it has an accurate pressure gauge. Adam of Zero Friction Cycling has a very positive review of it.
Yes, I’ll be carrying it on the bike. Thanks!
The Cycplus AS2 Ultra is the smallest electronic pump that I am aware of that has a pressure gauge.
I have the Cycplus AS2 Ultra, only used it twice but zero complaints so far
Another vote for the Cycplus AS2 Ultra.
Does the AS2 ultra fit on the plastic valve stem that some TPU tubes have? Or does it only work on metal valve stems? Hopefully @Dave_Rome pending update will include this info.
It comes with a hose so it’s fine for plastic TPU tube stems
Oh yes. Of course. Totally forgot that.
I was also waiting for the review but recently bought the AS2 Ultra. It works better as a daily top off inflator than I expected versus track pump with manual pressure check after. Reads about 1 PSI higher than TopPeak SmartGauge D2. I have used it to top off TPU tubes with the plastic stems but if you were to try and inflate from 0 PSI it will/might melt the plastic (but it has a hose). Theres a 10% off code (“EMTB”) on the website for a price of 109$, but it was recently on sale on Amazon for ~95$.
One other benefit is adjusting pressures for road/gravel rides between surfaces or for descending.
How is the self-discharge on the batteries on these units? For the saddle bag it would be nice not to have to worry about recharging it often.
When I tested the Cycplus AS2 (predecessor to the AS2 Ultra), the LED remained green after a couple of months in the down tube storage. So my assumption is the AS2 Ultra has a similar discharge rate.
I’ ve recently bought Silca Elettrico Ultimate, it was a bit expensive but it works really well, has a hose that’s easy to put on and off, and fits into a small saddle bag.
I have the Craft Cadence e-pump. Small enough to fit in my saddle bag (Silca Matone) with a TPU tube and some miscellaneous other stuff. Includes a hose and fittings for presta and schrader valves. Has a gauge (accurate, in that it agrees with my digital floor pump and two hand pressure gauges) with auto shut off when pressure is reached, and hose for use with TPU tubes. Seems to hold the charge well (I’ve never recharged it between uses, and it doesn’t get used frequently) and can inflate 3+ 700/30mm tires on a single charge. It can get a bit hot with inflation and is relatively noisy, but not unbearable. Cost is ~US$100. I really like it. I find the gauge particularly handy which is the sole reason I did not go with the Silca Elettrico. Craft Cadence Electric Minipump | Digital PSI Gauge | 118 grams | Summ . E-pumps are not waterproof, so I keep mine in a zip lock bag in my Matone bag. There is an optional case for the pump available, but it looks like it adds a fair amount of bulk to the pump.
Cycplus > Fumpa. My 1st Fumpa died after just a year of use. My 2nd one had a bad gasket after just a month of use. Both time I emailed the company their response was basically “these things happen. Too bad. So sad”
I’m disappointed to see that poor experience with Fumpa customer support. Having jumped on the electric pump train relatively early, I have both a Fumpa standard size for daily and travel use, and a Fumpa mini in the saddle bag. They’ve both worked well so far. One of the reasons I went with Fumpa over the cheap generic electric pumps from China was the serviceability and availability of replacement parts from Fumpa (including replacement batteries when the time comes). With all the competition now, hoping that Fumpa recognizes they’ll only stay viable with differentiation like availability of parts and great customer service. If Silca had been around and available when I was buying, knowing their other products, I probably would have gone that way.
Happy Cycplus AS2 Pro user here for a year or more. I cant imagine ever going back to carrying CO2 or a mini pump.
I have used the Flextail Tiny Pump Pro for a month now. It works well so far. Comes with a hose for TPU tubes and the battery charges very quickly. The pump is small enough to easily fit into my jersey pocket. The only drawback so far was the over three week wait for it to ship from China.
I have the AS2 Pro (next size up from the ultra) and it fits fine in my saddle bag (Silca Mattone) with two TPU tubes, some tools and levers.
I prefer it to the Ultra due speed of inflation and noise.
