Description: This is actually four routes in one. Durango is surrounded by XC-ish trails, so rather than make a bunch of shorter routes I just stuck them all together. This would be a huge day to do all in one, I’d take a piece of it off and do that.
We start with Horse Gulch. Head to that trailhead, head up the Mesa Connector. Then over to Telegraph, down Send It. Up Mikes, down Cuchillo. Then up to the ridge, down Snakecharmer (this is spicy - leave it out if you want). Then through town over to Animas, up the West side of the mountain, Lupine, do the loop at the top, and drop Swerve. Then to Test Tracks (technically called Ned Overend Mountain Park), ride it counter clockwise, then drop out onto the highway and head to Twin Buttes, ride that loop also counter-clockwise. Then drop back down to town for a dip in the river and a beer.
Refuel Opportunities: You’re never more than 30 minutes from town if you want to head back. The route itself takes you through downtown at about 90 min in and the again at 2.5-3 hrs.
