Disc brake adaptor for old stuff

I’ve been itching for a project, well now I’ve got one.

I’ve got an old (~1999) Trek 9900 MTB frame, it’s just sitting there itching for attention. Thought it would be cool to build into a “gravel”/”fun single track” bike.

I want to put modern components on it - SRAM or Shimano with wireless shifting. Big problem at the moment is it’s got, what I believe are 22 mm disc brake mounts for old Hope brakes. Does anyone know of an adaptor that would allow me to put flat, or post, mount brakes on it?

I had a frame that had that mounting standard, and I used some Hayes brakes on it. Brakes and bike are long gone. Just did quick search (“hayes disc brake mounting standard early 2000’s”) and found the below links. Pretty old tech and links, might need to haunt ebay for a brake.

I spent a while on this for a customerwith a vgc old carbon Trek a few years ago, that A2Z mount was the only thing I could find, and we couldn’t find one in stock anywhere. We decided the easiest route would be to try to modify or fabricate a mount for a flat mount calliper, but the customer wasn’t up for that, so we didn’t get around to measuring up and checking feasibility.

Thanks for the reply, I did the search and came up with this: Disc Brake Frame Adapter Converter Kit Converts 22mm Hayes to I.S. 51mm Aluminum | eBay
It seems to be real, I’ll keep it in my back pocket.

My son and I were looking at my cyclocross bike with SRAM Force flat mount calipers yesterday and has a very simple flat plate with two sets of holes to transfer location and adjust spacing. It may be relatively easy to make an adaptor - we’re going to give it a try. We may have a friend 3D print samples until the fit is dialed in.

Thanks for the reply. It doesn’t look to tough to create an adaptor for current flat mount brakes - going to give that a try.
