With the release of the new Conti GP5000 TT TR, it looks like the Archetype tyre has been removed from their site, cleaning up the naming nomenclature, which makes sense.
The TT tyre now comes in 25, 28 and 30mm.
The S TR tyre now comes in 25, 28, 30, 32 and 35mm.
Nice updates: Bicycle Tires - Road
Pretty sure the Archetype was described as “limited edition” when it was released, although BRR found it was Conti’s fastest tyre, so slightly sad if it’s just gone forever. I suppose therein lies the confusion - what is the point of the TT tyres if the Archetype is faster?
I’m assuming the new 30mm TT tyre is the archetype
It might aim to fill the same niche, but (based on BRR’s info), the Archetype had different construction to the TT range. The Archetype omitted the vectran breaker, but had 3-layer sidewalls and slightly more robust casing. The TT range have the vectran breaker, but only 2-layer sidewalls and lightweight casing.
As far as I can tell, the new 30mm TT follows the other tyres in the TT range and is not simply the Archetype re-branded.
