This morning I had a really good slice in my tire that I could not plug. I ended up using a new tublito tube as a backup but it has not been touched for many years. the valve extension ended up breaking and long story short I had to catch a ride home. Curious if there are any recommendation of a more ‘durable’ backup tube that has the same profile as tubolito and can handle the heat from a electric pump w/o using an extension?
RideNow makes TPU tubes with aluminum valve stems. They’re safe for the heat from electric pumps
Silca also just came out with new TPU tubes that have a metal valve stem to prevent this from happening. As for the heat from an electric pump on a standard TPU valve stem, I’ve seen recommendations to start the pump first, then attach it, although I’m not sure what difference that would make.
I’ve had great luck with Cyclami TPU tubes as well, which come with removable cores - if you’re planning on switching those cores for Clik ones, for example. I use these for gravel rides, with 40mm tyres. Have been running 4 of them for a year now, with zero issues.
Agreed, Silca is the way to go here. Watch their product video on their site for what makes them different.
Or go check out the cheaper equivalent from Eclipse.
