Hey all! I’m moving the Escape Collective Favourites polls over here. How this is hopefully going to work: I will post links to each form, and you can submit answers that way, but I assume we can also have a conversation about the specific category of products below, too. I admit I’m still figuring out this forum format, so there might be changes to how we do this, but let’s give it a go.
So, as a first go, I’d be keen to get an idea of your favourite two-bolt pedals (whether it’s SPD or something else). The poll/form is open for your answers over here… POLL
I like Shimano XTR, cause they are robust and just work. If it needs to be light I have a pair of eggbeater 4ti. Veryvery light but they need service like once a month. If you like wrenching, they are awesome
Shoutout here to my beloved Time Cyclo Pedals, the best two-bolt pedal for road. They’ve disappeared from the TIME website, but I’m holding out the hope that they’ll be brought back at some point
I’ve gone for crankbrothers Candy 3, which might be a bit of a left field choice but they have been superb for gravel for me. A big enough platform to feel like a road pedal and make pedalling when you miss a clip easy, but also extremely easy to clip in and out of.
I have a pair of Shimano 959 on my XC MTB and single speed cyclocross bike. I’ve moved them from bike to bike over the years, repack the bearings when I remember to, and they just keep going.
Speedplay frogs for the low weight and stack height. Problem is that cleats last about 6 months and aren’t made anymore. Even used cleats are selling for over $100 on eBay lol. Loved those pedals, especially for road/walking.
Also a Candy fan. But I’ll point out the minor drawbacks, which are that the sensation of clicking in is more subtle than Shimano. Sometimes in muddy condtions or with worn cleats, I have to pull up to make sure I’m in….which leads to the second minor drawback, which is that the cleats wear pretty fast.
For walkability, low weight (279g/pair) and sleek looks, its the Shimano ES600 for me. Single sided entry probably isn’t what you want for serious off reading, but for road, commuting & some gravel they’re pretty indestructible
Bog-standard SPD for me for road, gravel and cyclocross. The (discontinued) Shimano PD-A600s are my favorite road pedals. I’m down to my last, well-worn pair. They’re actually on a gravel bike that sees a fair amount of road use, and I have not found the single-sided entry to be much of a limitation due to muscle memory and being slow to begin with. CX bike gets double-sided.
I’m very happy with my Time Atac XC 10 and 6, I used to use Shimano XT pedals but I was never happy with them, they were or to hard to click into or to easy to click out AND they didn’t offer enough float for me.
I will say it again and again, more people need to try Time pedals, they are often overlooked, but so so good!
