Is this a group/bunch ride? No - ride whenever you like.

Description: A big day in the mountains. 3 climbs in 90km including the mighty Tourmalet. Starting in the stunning town of Arreau you head immediately up the Col d’Aspin. One of my favourite climbs with stunning views up and down the valley. You catch glimpses of the top as you ascend along with views over to your bigger goal - the Tourmalet.

There’s a fun descent off the other side into the valley where you’ll spin along for a while before hitting the turn off at Sainte-Marie de Campan for the eastern ascent of the Tourmalet. Settle in, it’s a long one. Once you get to the ski village just remember it doesn’t get any easier until you’re at the top.

Turning back to descend the same way, you’ll wish you’d brought more layers. Especially if it’s been foggy at the top. You’ll retrace your route back through the valley before turning off for the lesser-known Ancizan. Don’t skip it as you’re in for a stunning climb up through a pristine quiet valley surrounded by cows.

Once you’re over the top you’ll get a hair-raising descent (steep!) back down to the valley and to Arreau.

Refuel Opportunities: RNESTE in Arreau is a great place to start with a coffee and pistachio eclair. Delicious. Over the back of the Aspin after the descent you’ll ride past some eateries on your left if you need a refuel. There’s also a toilet and water tap here. You can stop in Sainte-Marie de Campan either on the way up or down the Tourmalet. There’s also a cafe at the top.
