Clik valve system conversion

Hey @kuotient, thanks for the info and bonus points for the video! Time to start shopping for Cliks… :joy:

I made an emergency adapter using a spare fumpa tube and heatshrinkq tube, so Hels can actually pump up her tyres with her OneUp pump. It actually works but its awkward

Having made that I then found some metal schrader valve to presta pump adapters thanks to a thread in reddit.

Unsurprisingly when searching for these I get 999 suggestions for presta valve to schrader pump, but these sets with both varieties are scattered amongst the ones I don’t want.

I got mine from EBay but the reddit thread had them on amazon. Some sellers offer them for $3 or so, then hit you for $12 postage! Thankfully I was paying attention and cancelled that purchase!

Oh yeah. I also emailed OneUp asking them to offer a click head for the EDC pump.

You can’t use something like the Blackburn pressure gauge with Clik valve. I ended up getting Clik’s pressure gauge and pre ordered the digital one they are selling.

with floor pumps, a number of ones I’ve tried are not giving an accurate reading so I wouldn’t fully trust them unless you’ve cross checked it with a gauge you know works. That’s why I always have the little adaptor in my bag if needed

On my pump, it doesn’t screw in and out so I have to sort of screw and pull at the same time.

Also Schwalbe (existing are removable, new will have metallic stems), Rene Herse, and WheelScience (again, plastic stem with removable valve core).

If it’s any use, I have put one of these Schrader and presta double heads on my electric inflator (big ryobi unit, not a fumpa style one) and the Clik adapter is permanently in the Schrader hole so it can do both clik and presta without any changes. Been using that for a month or so and works very nicely

Can you still use the presta connection with the clik adapter in the schrader hole? I’d have thought they were too close together?

I was about to suggest fitting the clik adapter into the pressure gauge, but then I tried to do that with our topeak gauge and realised that schrader valves don’t fit inside the gauge head, they just press up against it. I’d never noticed / thought about that before now.`

I’m starting to wish I’d just converted to schrader valves.

it does work, there’s enough room between them. If you had short presta stems it would be a problem but not an issue for my stems

I don’t get reliable pressure readings on the Cycplus (or most of my other pumps) without the adapter. That surprised me since they’re advertised as compatible with Presta pumps. (Haven’t received my adapter yet but I am sure it will be fine with it, the floor pump with conversion kit is.)

I reckon this is because the spring in the clik valve takes 30-40psi to open when not using the clik adapter. This is also why the big bore OneUp pump is bloody hard to use without the adapter.

Having scoured the internet for a hose to connect a presta pump to schrader valves, and visiting the four local bike shops to no avail, I found the perfect hose on one of our generic shock pumps. A total fluke, since it’s the only shock pump we have that the hose can be removed, and the pump is unbranded so I have no idea if I could get another one if I wanted to. Luckily we have several other better shock pumps.
This hose works with the Fumpa presta head and also screws into our Topeak pressure gauge so that can read the correct pressure via the clik adapter
This will do until OneUp decide to provide a clik head for their EDC pumps and/or Clik bring out a presta version of the clik adapter.

This is actually fairly simple to hack - I just took the tube out of our Fumpa pump and that pushes into the mouth of the clik pump head and seems to seal ok. So that would work with the Fumpa presta head on the other end, or with another slightly larger tube to go over the presta valve if you didn’t want to carry the fumpa head.

I contacted Clik Valve via their website and they told me they have the clik adapters for presta pumps in production now and they should be available in about 6 weeks. YAY!

OneUp are still evaluating whether it’s worth their time making a clik head for the EDC pump. They were grateful for my feedback about how the pump struggles with clik valves without the clik adapter. This will be less important to me once I can get the presta-clik adapter.

Ebay, local seller. Just enter “Clik valve” in the search bar and select “Australia only” in item location

I just bought more this week from CCache

That’s great that they’re making something. I would like to just be able to carry the adapter and not worry about having to explain to others why my pump won’t work on their tire.

I found TPU tubes equipped with Clik valves from Eclipse ( Eclipse - ultralight TPU inner tubes – Eclipse Tubes ), but they seem to be sold out at the moment. Made in Germany with an aluminum valve stem. Rene Herse TPU tubes are manufactured by Eclipse.

Toot toot for the Click valve train. Have bought a batch and found to order the wrong adapters and valves (rare ones for Dunlop valves). Now my shop is out of stock of the correct ones again. :smiling_face_with_tear:

Thought the Rene Herse TPUs were white label Schwalbe TPUs? Or are they related to Eclipse?

Schwalbe will introduce an aluminium valve stem with its TPU tubes later this year. Eclipse manufactures the TPU tubes for Rene Herse.

Yo I heard you needed an adapter for your adapter to fit on the adapter. Works great!!!

Schrader to Clik valve adapter (works like a valve cap) + Clik adapter for Schrader pump head + 90° Schrader adapter :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:
